Pluralsight – SOLIDWORKS – Layout Based Assembly Modeling

Layout based modeling gives you whole new approach to design. Instead of sketching the same shapes over and over again, we can use blocks to reuse those shapes easily. At the assembly level, we can place those blocks and test if the assembly is even going to work before you have modeled a single 3d part! Once you’ve tested the assembly with blocks, you can use the blocks to build 3D parts. Instead of saving out different file variations or duplicating materials, you can set up different takes for each variation and view each one very quickly from a single scene file. The purpose of this course is to demonstrate how to use existing rigging techniques in order to animate a creature that does not allow for standard rigging solutions to locomotion.
The key to being a confident rigger and animator is knowing how to use existing tools in creative ways in order to meet challenges outside of the norm, and this tutorial offers a streamlined approach to the problem that does not require scripting or complex principles. Rather, we will approach this in the spirit of repurposing existing attributes of the IK system to achieve smooth and easily-customized animation.
